Turned out well in the end.

I finished my first project using a skein of Posh Patricia Aran. I'd decided to try an ear-flap hat, reasoning that I'd have enough yarn if I added a contrasting colour to add stripes and a trim around the flaps and brim.

After two false starts (I'd tried the top-down approach before and couldn't manage joining eight stitches in the round then either), I settled for a bottom-up version. Juneau Fair Isle Hat (no way was I attempting  Fair Isle colour work with a new pattern) to make myself a stripey version.

The result was a humongous hat with ginormous ear-flaps that wrap around my neck.

Posh Patricia is so lovely to knit with. I'm looking forward to buying more in the New Year.
